Garage Sale

We had a garage sale today and it went well. We didn't make a lot of money but we got a ton accomplished. We had a neighborhood trash day so we were able to get rid of a ton of junk. Then after the garage sale I took everything that didn't sell to Goodwill. Our garage is empty except for the furniture that didn't cell. It feel so good to get that off my plate. For me this was a daunting task that I am so relieved is over. Now we are on to packing. Moving is a lot of work.

Summer Reading Kick Off

Ok. Here is an idea I had just a few minutes ago. I was thinking we could have a summer reading kick off at the Fort Vancouver Library. We could explain how they could win a bronze, silver, or gold medal for reading. Afterwards we could head over to Officer's Row and have a picnic lunch and let the kids play to their hearts content. I was thinking the sooner they start reading and keeping track of their reading the better. Which brings me to my next thought. It would probably would be best if each child kept a written account of each book they read. This way they can't loose count but they also can visually see how much they have accomplished.

For the younger children I had another idea. I have a pre-schooler and school age kids so maybe we could adjust the parameters for the younger kids so that they could also participate. This might help the younger siblings become excited about reading too.

I am going to be working on putting together a reading list for my kids pulling from several resources. First, from Sunlight curriculum, secondly, the Library recommended books for their reading level, and thirdly... well I don't have a thirdly but I am sure I will come up with a thirdly soon enough.

Please, if you have a friend that you think would enjoy joining us in any or all of the summer educational ideas I had please invite them. If you would like to do the pen pal thing we need to get the word out their so that each child has 3 or 4 names to write too.

I am excited about this summer, how about you?

Summer Education

I would like to invite anyone that is interested to join us in our summer education fun. I have been brainstorming some idea's of what I would like to do with my kids this summer. This plan would be so much more fun if you were to join us.

Because we are moving we won't be starting our summer program until July 14th.

These are some of the idea's I had.
One~
Summer Reading
Summer Olympic reading program. They would have the opportunity to earn, bronze, silver, and gold medals for reading books on their own or having them read to them. At the end of the summer if they had earned a medal I was thinking a gathering all the kids that joined us in our reading for some kind of celebration. For my children I was thinking of having a reading list to give them a guide for their reading. They would need to read a certain amount of books from the list and the rest would be free reading. What I was thinking it would look like is something along these lines.

50 books=a bronze medal
75 books=a silver medal
100 books=a gold medal

Second~
Pen Pals
I was thinking snail mail Pen Pals would be great for the summer. This has many benefits educationally. Subsequently, I think they would enjoy making new friends and getting things in the mail.
There are on-line services that can help you find pen pals. There are international agencies that will give your child several names that they can write to. Or, we could have our kids write to one another if this is something you are interested in joining us in.

Third~
Math
I had a thought of having Math play dates. (Now, I have to admit math is not a strength of mine.) We have one 'math' game called, SMATH. My thought is that we would have a normal play date but a play date with a purpose. So we would bring our kids favorite math game or as parents we could create a math game of some kind.

It Passed!

We got home a little while ago from inspecting the house with a home inspector. The inspection went really well. The house had a couple of minor things that need to be repaired and I think we may be able to do them our selves.

It was such a blessing to get to spend a couple of hours in the house and let it sink in that this is our home. I am in awe of how God has provided for us.

We got a phone call on Tuesday from our landlord telling us that they want to move back into our home. They asked us to move out the same weekend we are moving into our new home. They also said that they are thinking about replacing the carpets, repainting, and replacing the windows. So we do not have to clean all of these things. What a beautifully amazing confirmation that we are moving in the right direction.

The inspector told us that our house was in great condition and went on and on about how well it had been maintained. All of these things aren't coincidences they are the hand of God. He is a great conductor and His orchestra plays beautiful harmonious melodies. What a wonderful experience it is to see Him at work.

It is in south Salem Creek, really it is Hazel Dell off of 99 street. It is near Giaser Middle School. My brain is so fried from the long weekend and extra stress I am struggling to come up with good details for you. Ask away and I will be happy to answer you any question I am able to answer.

Offer Accepted!!!

We placed our forth and prayfully our last offer on this house over the weekend. Today we settled on a price and now we are onto getting the inspection done. If everything goes as planned we will be moving June 28th. So save the date, hehe.
